The Story Behind Son La Washed SHG
Son La, in northwestern Vietnam, is a region renowned for Arabica cultivation. Spanning 22,000 hectares and producing 600,000 bags of coffee per crop, the area sits between 700 and 1,200 meters above sea level and is defined by its Catimor varietal, which thrives in local conditions. Ample sunlight and rainfall allow Catimor to flourish without irrigation, while sustainable farming practices minimize water-use conflicts. High altitudes and seasonal shifts enhance the coffee's flavor complexity, and fertile soils paired with regular rainfall improve bean quality and resilience.
This specialty coffee cooperative is committed to sustainability, social upliftment, and gender equality. Its manager, Ngoc Anh Sprunker, also serves as chairperson of the Vietnam chapter of the International Women's Coffee Association (IWCA).
