IT All Begins Here
Our Origin Trips.
At Verden Green Coffee, our origin trips are the foundation of our commitment to quality and transparency. We travel directly to the source, visiting sustainable coffee farms and independent lots across major cultivating regions worldwide. Meeting directly with local coffee farmers allows us to personally evaluate the harvesting, washing, and drying processes that define specialty green coffee.
Establishing strong and direct-trade relationships on the ground ensures we know the source and secure the finest crop selections for our customers. Follow our journey as we document our sourcing trips, explore unique microclimates, and bring exceptional, single-origin unroasted green coffee beans directly from the farm to your home roaster!
Guatemala
Our trips took us through two distinct regions — Acatenango and Santa Rosa. In the highlands of Chimaltenango, we visited Santa Margarita, a 4th generation family farm operated largely by women, dedicated to cultivating exceptional coffee while preserving the natural forest and biodiversity surrounding their land. In Santa Rosa, we sourced from Finca Arbelia, home to a rare Robusta lot grown at 1,550 masl — bold, smooth, and carrying twice the caffeine of Arabica.
Our visits to Montecillos in La Paz brought us to the farming families behind our IHCAFE 90 and Catuai lots. Generational growers cultivating at 1,500 masl with Rainforest Alliance certification. Coffee here is the economic backbone of the community, with cherries selectively hand-picked at peak ripeness and processed with care to produce the clean, balanced cup Honduras is known for.

El Salvador
Our sourcing brought us to Concepción de Ataco, a highland town in the Ahuachapán department along El Salvador's famed Ruta de las Flores. Nestled in the Apaneca mountain range at elevations where cool temperatures and volcanic soils create ideal growing conditions, Ataco produces some of the most refined and expressive specialty coffee in Central America — a small country with an outsized reputation in the coffee world.
Frequently Asked Origin Questions
-
By traveling directly to the farms, we can personally evaluate the variables that define specialty green coffee before it ever leaves the origin. We look closely at farm elevation, soil health, and the precise methods used during the harvesting, washing, and drying processes. This hands-on evaluation ensures we only select exceptional, defect-free green coffee lots for our home roasters.
-
Direct-trade means we cut out the traditional supply chain middlemen and build personal relationships with independent coffee farmers. This model allows us to pay premium prices directly to the growers, supporting sustainable agricultural practices and local communities. For you, it means 100% traceability—you know exactly which farm, microclimate, and family produced your beans.
-
A microclimate refers to the specific atmospheric conditions of a small, localized area—such as a single hillside on a farm. Factors like daily temperature swings, shade tree canopy, and proximity to mist or cloud cover drastically change how a coffee cherry matures. Slower maturation in unique microclimates allows the bean to develop denser sugars, resulting in more complex, vibrant flavor profiles when you roast them.
-
We prioritize sustainability, ethical labor, and a commitment to specialty grading. We seek out independent lots and small-scale farmers who treat coffee production as a craft. By focusing on sustainable farms, we ensure that our green coffee selections not only taste exceptional but are also grown in a way that protects the local ecosystem for future harvests.
