The Story Behind Montecillos SHG EP: These two certified lots are produced by a collective of farming families in the Montecillos region — specifically the San Pedro de Tutule area of La Paz, Honduras. For generations, these families have built their livelihoods around coffee, gradually expanding small inherited plots into thriving specialty farms. Coffee remains the economic backbone of the community, providing steady employment and fueling local development.
Grown at elevations between 1,500 and 1,550 meters above sea level, the region's climate and altitude create ideal conditions for high-quality Arabica production. These lots are comprised of IHCAFE 90 and Catuai varieties, selectively hand-picked between December and March at peak ripeness to ensure only the most mature cherries are harvested.
These lots carry Rainforest Alliance certification, meaning the farms meet rigorous environmental, social, and economic standards. Certified producers protect local biodiversity, maintain safe and fair working conditions, and implement climate-smart agricultural practices that strengthen long-term resilience and sustainability.
